Micron plans to discontinue its Crucial brand, a well-known name in PC memory and storage, by February 2026, ending its 29-year presence in the consumer market.
This strategic shift by Micron involves moving manufacturing capacity from the less profitable consumer sector to meet the high demand for enterprise memory in AI data centers. According to Sumit Sadana, Micron’s Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer, the growth in AI data centers has significantly increased the need for memory and storage, prompting this change to better serve larger, strategic clients in these rapidly expanding areas.

PC enthusiasts and system builders may view this as a considerable loss, as Crucial has been a popular option for dependable and affordable DDR4 and DDR5 memory kits and SSDs. Although product shipments will conclude in early 2026, Micron guarantees that it will uphold warranties and offer service support for existing Crucial products.
This action is a market realignment, not a complete exit. Micron will continue to provide its Micron-branded enterprise products to commercial clients worldwide. To minimize employee impact, the company intends to offer redeployment into other internal roles.
