The “doomsday land defense adventure” title, MOCHI-O, is scheduled to launch on PC via Steam on January 19. This announcement comes from publisher Kodansha and developer Zxima. While iOS and Android versions are also in development, their release dates have not yet been disclosed.
Developer Zxima described MOCHI-O as a comedic and lighthearted interpretation of the apocalypse, featuring a “gentle doomsday” visual style. They emphasized that the game’s charming appearance is complemented by its deep gameplay. A press release from the developer highlighted that the nurturing system allows for diverse strategies and playstyles, offering substantial content for both new players and experienced tower defense enthusiasts.

Players will encounter MOCHI-O, described as the world’s most adorable doomsday defense system. The objective is to cultivate formidable firepower by nurturing a weapon of mass destruction. This weapon’s combat abilities improve through positive reinforcement, affection, and a consistent diet of seeds. The game promises an engaging narrative with humorous dialogue, maintaining a lighthearted tone within its post-apocalyptic setting.
The gameplay involves unleashing destructive power against incoming threats to prevent the nation’s downfall. Players direct a small hamster towards advancing enemies, observing MOCHI-O eliminate enemy ships using its continuously evolving abilities in a tower defense combat style.
MOCHI-O can be equipped with diverse weapons and skills. Players collect seeds dropped by defeated adversaries to earn experience points. Accumulating sufficient seeds allows for leveling up MOCHI-O’s core attributes, such as firing rate, critical hit chance, attack range, and cooldown reductions, enabling players to develop a personalized playstyle.
MOCHI-O’s firepower grows stronger as the caretaker’s bond with it deepens. Beyond combat, players can strengthen this bond by petting, feeding, and decorating MOCHI-O’s room, fostering an optimal environment that unlocks upgrades and new weapons.
