Following the release of the fourth teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel has initiated a
on YouTube, counting down to the film’s premiere. This livestream is scheduled to run for over 11 months.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18. Fans can now join thousands of others watching the countdown of months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Over 5,000 viewers were reportedly tuned in at the time of this writing, curious to see if any additional events will occur during the stream.
The introduction of this countdown clock suggests that Marvel may have concluded its weekly releases of Avengers: Doomsday trailers. These teasers previously appeared in theaters and sometimes leaked online before their official debut on Marvel’s YouTube channel.
The four trailers, initially shown with Avatar: Fire and Ash, offered viewers a glimpse of the film’s key characters in action. However, they provided minimal details about the overarching plot. Significantly, Doctor Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., has yet to be fully revealed.
Only one additional cast member was officially confirmed across the four trailers: Chris Evans, reprising his role as Steve Rogers. This announcement sparked some debate among fans, with some suggesting a lack of new creative directions for Marvel. It is also plausible that Hayley Atwell will return as Peggy Carter.
In the weeks that followed, viewers saw a preview of the previously-announced Thor (Chris Hemsworth). This was followed by a look at returning X-Men characters, including Magneto (Ian McKellen), Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), and Cyclops (James Marsden). The most recent trailer showcased Wakandan characters and The Thing from the Fantastic Four.
Many fans anticipated a fifth trailer to be released today, but none has appeared. The ongoing countdown clock might indicate a pause in new reveals, possibly until events like the Super Bowl on February 8.
This is not Marvel’s first extended livestream event promoting Avengers: Doomsday. Last year, the film’s extensive cast list was unveiled through the notable ‘chair stream.’ This event displayed the names of key actors on the backs of chairs arranged in a long line within a large aircraft hanger. Robert Downey Jr. eventually appeared at the end of this hours-long stream. It remains to be seen if he will make another appearance during the current countdown.
As of this writing, approximately 11 months, four days, and 14 hours remain until the release of Avengers: Doomsday.
