London-based law firm Harbottle & Lewis has launched a new mentorship program, the Indie Games Collective. This initiative aims to support and educate companies in the early stages of their careers within the game development industry.
According to a post on its official website, the year-long program will cover essential subjects such as company incorporation, fundraising strategies, access to finance, critical commercial contracts, intellectual property (IP), and regulatory compliance. The primary training sessions are scheduled from February to August 2026, with a dedicated legal help desk available for the entire 12-month duration. Further details are available on the firm’s website.
The application period for the Indie Games Collective concludes on Friday, January 23. Successful applicants will be notified of their acceptance into the program by February 6.
Participants will have opportunities to attend networking events, fostering connections and enabling them to exchange insights with other professionals in the industry.
While the program is offered free of charge, enrollment is limited, with spaces allocated from a pool of selected applicants.
The program’s FAQs indicate that attendees can expect at least five online interactive training sessions. Additionally, participants are invited to an annual breakfast seminar on February 26 and a summer games mixer.
Harbottle & Lewis also provides access to a collection of template agreements, designed to address fundamental needs often encountered by indie studios during their initial phases.
Harbottle & Lewis has a long-standing presence in the games sector, regularly contributing legal expertise to publications like GamesIndustry.biz. The firm recently offered insights into the legal challenges associated with generative AI.
