FragPunk players are familiar with the tactical intensity of Shard Clash. To celebrate the game’s first anniversary, Bad Guitar Studio is expanding its offerings. Season 4, titled “Full Spectrum Bash,” aims to deepen the PvE experience and boost replayability with a brand-new game mode.
According to Xin, a Producer at Bad Guitar Studio, “The Full Spectrum Bash will be the ultimate playground for all FPS players to enjoy.” The highlight of this update is the Pigment Realm, a mode that shifts from predetermined decks to a more unpredictable roguelike gameplay style.

Entering the Pigment Realm: From Chaos to Creation
Season 4’s arrival is more than just a technical update; it concludes a narrative arc. After the Toy Frontline incident, Kepler recovered several toy monsters for research. However, some monsters intended for the Pathojen Laboratory mysteriously disappeared, only to resurface as a “mysterious package” at Wildstyle’s studio.
Xin elaborates, “This is where the chaos begins.” Wildstyle, unaware of Kepler’s loss, mistook these creatures for harmless art supplies and incorporated them into her work. The critical moment arrived when her signature glunite-infused paint accidentally activated the monsters.
The goal was to create a gameplay mode with extensive replay value. Xin states, “The Pigment Realm places a greater emphasis on a single-player experience where the core deck is constructed during gameplay rather than outside of matches.” This design approach rests on four key principles: increased randomness, deeper progression via talent trees, a rewarding “grind” with leaderboard integration, and improved loot opportunities.

Designing the Mechanics: The Roguelike Evolution
The Pigment Realm replaces traditional pre-match planning with real-time adaptation. Lancers will no longer bring pre-configured card decks into matches. Instead, they will build their power using an in-game card backpack, acquiring abilities through combat.
Xin notes, “The growth was intended to feel organic to the fight.” Every defeated monster has a chance to drop a card, with the drop rate increasing based on the number of players in a team. This encourages squad-based play where new abilities are constantly acquired and activated during gameplay.

To enhance this system, several strategic layers were implemented:
- The Shard Card Crafting System: Crystals can be spent to draw and select new Shard Cards. Unlike other modes, these cards have no usage or resource limits; if a card is in a player’s hand slot, it is active.
- Card Synthesis: Lancers can merge three cards of the same name and level to create a more potent version. The system also supports “direct synthesis” from the ground if a dropped card completes a set of three with cards already held.
- The Blessing System: Upon completing a specific number of waves, players must choose one of three powerful blessings to further customize their character build.
Strategic Exploration and Resource Management
Map areas in the Pigment Realm unlock progressively using resources. Initially, certain zones are restricted. Xin advises players to “Venture forth and explore every uncharted zone to your heart’s content!” This introduces a tactical decision: spend Crystals on new Shard Cards or use them to expand the map. Importantly, enemies will not appear in an area until it has been officially unlocked, allowing players to manage the pace of combat.

Persistent Growth: The Out-of-Game Build
Beyond immediate in-game survival, the new Perk System ensures that each match contributes to a Lancer’s enduring power. Every character now possesses a unique Character Level, which can only be advanced by playing that specific hero in PvE mode.
Xin states, “The progression is designed to reward your time and skill.” Leveling up grants Talent Points, which are used to develop a permanent talent tree outside of matches. Three primary factors influence experience gain:
- Hero Used: Experience is specific to the hero played in a given match.
- Match Duration: Longer survival times result in more accumulated experience.
- Waves Cleared: In Endless mode, progress directly correlates with character experience earned.

Three new maps (Acme Underpass, Art Town, Collège Alpin) will be featured in Pigment Realm, alongside a new map (Caesarea) for Shard Clash.

Meet Wildstyle
Background
The Pigment Realm introduces new gameplay styles, while the new Lancer, Wildstyle (Melody Lovelock), provides fresh strategies for victory. Despite her prominent family background, she is a renowned figure in the underground graffiti scene, a detail the Lancer Association discreetly maintains. Her abilities revolve around the “Stained” effect:
Mechanics and Skills
- Coat of Many Colors: Wildstyle applies paint to herself or allies, granting 15 temporary HP. This bonus health regenerates throughout the skill’s duration.
- Spray Paint: Wildstyle discharges paint from her graffiti gun, creating a splatter zone on the ground. Foes entering this area are slowed, exposed, and suffer increased damage. The Stained effect lingers briefly after exiting the paint zone, which itself is temporary.
- Wonderwall: Wildstyle deploys a graffiti device on the ground or a door, generating a paint waterfall that obstructs vision in one direction. This paint does not block bullets or projectiles. Enemies passing through it become covered in paint and are Stained. The waterfall dissipates if the device is destroyed or after a set time, and this skill recharges automatically.

The Anniversary: It’s Raining Gold
Beyond the new content, the anniversary event serves as a token of appreciation for the community. Lancers can acquire up to 2,500 coins and a complimentary Extreme-tier weapon skin set simply by participating in various activities.
Looking forward, the studio maintains its foundational philosophy. Xin concludes, “The game will expand with more creative Arcade matches and even bolder experimental content.” Through ongoing updates, the aim is to transform FragPunk into the ultimate gaming environment, offering every desired play experience.
FragPunk is available for free on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, supporting Xbox Play Anywhere and Cloud Gaming, and is included with all tiers of Game Pass.
