Valve has deployed its most recent stable update for the Steam client, affecting Desktop, Steam Deck, and SteamOS platforms. This update introduces several notable changes and fixes.
A key highlight of this update is the transition of the Steam client to 64-bit for Windows 11 and Windows 10 64-bit users. There are indications that a similar 64-bit update for the Linux client could be forthcoming, based on recent developments in the Steam Linux Runtime.
Desktop Steam Updates
The comprehensive list of changes for the Desktop Steam client includes:
General Improvements
- The Steam client has transitioned to 64-bit for Windows 11 and Windows 10 64-bit operating systems.
- Users on 32-bit Windows versions will continue to receive 32-bit client updates until January 1, 2026.
- An issue where non-Steam browser windows were incorrectly generated upon steamwebhelper restarts has been resolved.
Game Recording Enhancements
- Errors encountered when copying to clipboard or exporting H265 videos on systems equipped with NVIDIA 50xx series GPUs have been corrected.
Friends & Chat Features
- Users can now report suspicious or harassing messages directly from group chat windows by right-clicking the message. Options to block or unfriend the user are available during the reporting process.
Big Picture Mode Fixes
- Intermittent failures during in-game purchases for certain titles in Big Picture Mode have been addressed.
Remote Play Adjustments
- An issue preventing mouse movement to a second monitor when utilizing touch controls in the Steam Link app has been resolved.
Steam Input Improvements
- Support has been added for Nintendo Switch 2 controllers connected via USB on Windows.
- GameCube adapters in Wii-U mode now support rumble on Windows.
- An “Invert Input” toggle has been introduced in “Regular Press” activator settings, allowing button presses to generate releases and vice versa.
- Newer gyro modes have been moved from beta to become the default. Older configurations using previous modes will still see the option, and a Steam Input dev mode can be enabled in Settings->Developer to keep them visible.
- DualSense “Create” and “Options” glyphs have been adjusted for improved recognition.
- Within all Gyro Modes, when multiple gyro activation buttons are selected, users can now choose if “Any” or “All” buttons are required to Enable/Suppress/Toggle the gyro.
- The Gyro Haptic On/Off effect is now distinct from the Gyro Haptic Rotation Effect.
- In Gyro to Joystick Deflection Mode, “Use Relative Roll” and “Use Relative Pitch” toggles have been added. When active, joystick deflection output becomes relative to the controller’s pose at gyro activation, meaning turning on the gyro will always center the stick output. When disabled, the deflection angle is absolute to the controller’s gravity sensor. This functionality, previously only for “Pitch” (formerly “World Auto Tilt”), is now also available for Roll.
- The “Relative Roll” and “Relative Pitch” toggles for Gyro to Joystick Deflection are only available when a Gyro Activation Button is selected, as the angles are relative to the controller’s pose each time the Gyro is activated.
- A bug causing the desktop configurator to unexpectedly close when previewing configurations for other games on the Search tab has been fixed.
- Issues preventing DualSense Edge, Xbox Elite, and Nintendo Joy-Cons in paired mode from finding the correct configuration to edit have been resolved.
- Gyro to Joystick Deflection: Lock Extents now functions as intended.
- Gyro to Joystick Deflection: Combinations of “Relative Roll” and “Relative Pitch” toggles that previously resulted in zero joystick output have been corrected.
Steam Deck / SteamOS Specific Updates
Specific changes for Steam Deck and SteamOS include:
- Choosing “Sleep” from the Power menu will now appropriately prompt users to enable Display-off downloads.
- An issue where news items failed to update in the “What’s New” tab on the Home screen has been resolved.
- The Bluetooth settings screen now detects and notifies users attempting to pair or connect an Xbox controller with outdated firmware that may cause connection issues with Steam Deck. Resolving these issues requires connecting the controller to a Windows PC and updating its firmware via the Xbox Accessories App.
- The Screen Reader’s “Stop Talking” button has been relocated to the X button, ensuring external gamepads can still access the Quick Access Menu using the Guide button combined with their equivalent of the A button.
