Mohg Lord of Blood makes a return in Nightreign‘s The Forsaken Hollows DLC. The boss battle in Nightreign presents a significant challenge, featuring immense HP, a health-restoring blood ritual that is harder to counter, and modified attacks. This encounter can be more difficult than the Nightlord that appears after it.
However, certain strategies can simplify this fight. It is possible to identify if Mohg, Lord of Blood will be encountered during an expedition, allowing for better preparation.
This guide provides information on how to defeat Mohg Lord of Blood in Nightreign and where to obtain a Purifying Crystal Tear.

How to beat Mohg Lord of Blood in Elden Ring Nightreign
When facing the Balancers, the Day Two boss will be either Demon Prince or Mohg Lord of Blood. If the Day One boss is Curseblade and Divine Beast Warrior, Mohg, Lord of Blood is guaranteed to appear on Day Two.
The encounter with the Lord of Blood can be more challenging than the Balancers Nightlord. Mohg possesses a substantial amount of HP, and his life-stealing blood ritual attack from Elden Ring reappears in Nightreign. Additionally, he introduces a second bloody ritual attack that can be difficult to evade.
There are a few methods to determine if Mohg, Lord of Blood will be encountered on Day Two, enabling appropriate preparation during an Expedition. These methods include:
- During an Expedition, check the map for Libra, Equilibrious Beast. If he sells the Purifying Crystal Tear, an encounter with the Lord of Blood is highly probable, though not guaranteed.
- If Libra does not offer the Purifying Crystal Tear for sale, defeating him may result in the item dropping.
- If the Day One boss is Curseblade and Divine Beast Warrior, the Day Two boss is guaranteed to be Mohg, Lord of Blood.
With knowledge of how to identify a potential encounter with Mohg, Lord of Blood, preparation can begin. This involves acquiring items and gear to which he is vulnerable, while also considering the Balancers’ weakness to Sleep. Additionally, obtaining a Purifying Crystal Tear is crucial for cleansing his initial blood ritual (information on acquiring this item follows).

It is advisable to incorporate Bleed into this fight when feasible (while also carrying a Sleep weapon for the Balancers), as Mohg is susceptible to Bleed. This strategy is highly effective for inflicting significant damage to his health, and can be repeated using Duchess’ Restage Ability.
While much of Mohg, Lord of Blood’s moveset mirrors his Elden Ring counterpart, he introduces a new, challenging attack. Following his blood ritual – performed at half-HP – he unleashes a second bloody waterfall/ritual attack capable of rapidly depleting a player’s HP if not managed carefully.
To counter this attack, Mohg summons multiple red tridents in the arena that can be targeted and destroyed. Destroying a trident and standing precisely in its former location provides immunity from Mohg’s subsequent blood rituals, though this safe zone is small. Therefore, one team member should maintain Mohg’s aggro while others destroy several nearby tridents, creating multiple safe spots for the team when Mohg unleashes the attack.
When Mohg initiates the attack, the arena will glow red, signaling players to quickly move to one of the established safe spots.

Where to get Purifying Crystal Tear in Nightreign
Currently, two methods are known for obtaining a Purifying Crystal Tear in Nightreign, neither of which is guaranteed. If an encounter with Mohg is anticipated, investing time to find this item is beneficial, as it significantly simplifies cleansing his blood ritual, which he unleashes at half-HP. The Purifying Crystal Tear also reduces the amount of health Mohg steals from a team.
- If Libra, Equilibrious Beast is present on the map, the option to ‘cleanse the rite of blood’ may appear, allowing the purchase of the Purifying Crystal Tear for 2000 Runes. Alternatively, defeating Libra may result in the item dropping.
- Visiting any Bleed camps or Points of Interest (POIs) on the map and defeating red Albinaurics found there may yield a Purifying Crystal Tear.

It is important to use the Purifying Crystal Tear immediately when Mohg begins his blood ritual. This action protects against the subsequent three waves of health stealing. Alternatively, players can heal through this attack (though this consumes Flasks needed for the rest of the fight), or utilize the invulnerability window provided by Ultimate Arts to negate some of the damage waves.
Defeating the Lord of Blood in Elden Ring: Nightreign can be a challenging endeavor. Fortunately, the subsequent fight against the Balancers is generally less difficult, assuming adequate preparation.
