Way back in the year 2000, Nintendo launched a series of “Funtastic” colors for the N64, with bright, translucent neons in shades of Jungle Green, Ice Blue, Grape Purple, Fire Orange, Watermelon Red, and Smoke Black. However, a few other colorways were prototyped but never made it to market.
Analogue 3D Prototype Limited Edition
Analogue has revived these unreleased colors, launching them as limited edition variants of the Analogue 3D. The five colors are Extreme Green, Atomic Purple, Ocean, Ghost, and Glacier. Some of these shades have appeared on other Nintendo hardware over the years, such as limited edition controllers and Game Boy variants. Analogue states that over a year was dedicated to color matching these to the original prototype colors.
Analogue 3D Review Highlights
The Analogue 3D offers the best possible way to experience an N64 library outside of the original hardware connected to a CRT. Its refined industrial design makes it an attractive modern addition to any gaming setup. The extensive flexibility provided by its numerous filters and display options allows for fine-tuning visuals to precise, personal specifications. This FPGA machine is built for the hardcore enthusiast, breathing new life into a system notoriously difficult to accurately emulate. However, some games exhibit combing, which can be a drawback, especially for a product aimed at a specific audience of veteran video game enthusiasts. For those who long for the N64 era and wish to revisit it without sacrificing the modern amenities of a large-screen 4K television, this console stands as an unparalleled option. – Seth Macy, November 18, 2025
