Amazon has officially unveiled the first image from its highly anticipated live-action God of War series. The production for the Prime Video show is currently underway in Vancouver, Canada.

Ryan Hurst, known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead, takes on the role of Kratos, while young actor Callum Vinson portrays his son, Atreus. An official statement from Amazon announced, “Father and Son. Behold your first look at Kratos and Atreus in the God of War series now in production for Prime Video. Their journey to the highest peak begins.”
The series has been greenlit for two seasons, which are expected to adapt the narratives of the two modern game installments. These seasons will follow Kratos as he raises his son amidst battles with Norse gods.
A synopsis for the series details the plot: “Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”
The cast also includes additional members such as Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as the brothers Brok and Sindri, and Ed Skrein as Baldur.
Sony Santa Monica is currently commemorating the 20th anniversary of God of War with various initiatives. This includes the recent shadow-drop of a new 2D game, which followed its announcement during a State of Play event this month.
During the same livestream, the developer also confirmed that a God of War Trilogy Remake is in its early stages of development. An update on this project is anticipated to be significant when it is eventually shared.
