The upcoming 1.7 update for Stardew Valley will introduce two new marriage candidates.
This information was shared by the game’s creator, Eric Barone (ConcernedApe), during an interview celebrating Stardew Valley’s 10th anniversary. When questioned about the 1.7 update, Barone mentioned his preference for surprises but hinted at addressing a popular fan request to make children more interesting. He also confirmed the addition of two new marriage candidates, with their identities to be revealed on the anniversary day.
This announcement is significant, as players have long requested more romance options. The only previous additions since the game’s release were Shane and Emily in update 1.1. The identities of these new partners remain unknown. ConcernedApe might introduce entirely new characters, or existing non-marriageable characters, such as Marnie, Sandy, Linus, Clint, or the Wizard, could become available. Some players have even expressed interest in breaking up existing couples like Robin and Demetrius, though this would likely introduce considerable in-game drama.
Regardless of their identities, these new candidates will feature additional scenes for heart events, extensive new relationship dialogue, and a unique area on the player’s farm. This ensures new story content will accompany their introduction.
