During a recent company earnings call, AMD CEO Lisa Su mentioned a potential 2027 launch timeframe for Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox console. This information was reported by PC Mag.
Su stated, “From a product standpoint, Valve is on-track to begin shipping its AMD-powered Steam Machine early this year, and development of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027.”
A system-on-a-chip, or SoC, is an integrated circuit designed to consolidate most or all computer components into a single unit.
Su’s comments followed news that AMD expects a “significant double-digit percentage” decline in revenue from semi-custom chip manufacturing in 2026. This category includes the chips found in consoles such as the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
Microsoft confirmed its partnership with AMD on its next-generation Xbox project back in June 2025.
At that time, Microsoft released a statement: “Announcing that we’re building the next-generation of Xbox first-party devices and cloud, including our future Xbox consoles, together with AMD.” The company also promised “next-level performance, cutting-edge graphics, breakthrough gameplay, and unmatched compatibility” for the upcoming system.
While specific details remain scarce, Microsoft has officially stated that the next-generation Xbox will offer “fully compatible” support for existing Xbox game libraries.
An unconfirmed report from October last year suggested the next Xbox could function as a console/PC hybrid capable of running Steam.
