Konami has officially announced Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, a new 2D title developed by Evil Empire. This announcement, made during the February 2026 State of Play, also included confirmation of “other projects” underway to celebrate the Castlevania series’ 40th anniversary. A dedicated official website has been launched for these initiatives. The announcement did not clarify if these additional projects will involve more games, adaptations, or potentially merchandise.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is scheduled for release in 2026. While the State of Play initially highlighted the PlayStation 5 version, the game is also planned for Xbox Series X and PC. The game features a female Belmont clan member wielding the iconic Vampire Killer whip to defend Paris from supernatural threats. The setting is 1499. Although not explicitly confirmed, the character’s appearance and the 15th-century timeline suggest a possible connection to Sonia Belmont.
Konami shared a statement from the Castlevania series production team on the 40th-anniversary site, which also promoted the new Belmont’s Curse game:
“The doors of Castlevania open once more.
This year marks the 40th anniversary since the original Akumajō Dracula first saw the light of day. In this commemorative year, Castlevania will be revived.
First up is this title: Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse.
Studios brimming with talent and passion, Evil Empire and Motion Twin, were chosen to work together to deliver a new exploration-based 2D action game that captures the essence of Castlevania while bringing fresh innovation.
This is the beginning of numerous new products around Castlevania.
Look forward to the return of the magnificent nightmare lurking in the darkness.”
Historically, the Castlevania series has seen animated adaptations, such as those on Netflix. Various compilation games have also been released, including Castlevania Dominus Collection, Castlevania Advance Collection, and Castlevania Anniversary Collection.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2026.
