Tom Noonan, known for his roles in films such as RoboCop 2 and Manhunter, has passed away at the age of 74.

A Distinguished Career in Film and Television
Noonan’s extensive career in Hollywood began in the 1980s, featuring early appearances in movies like Willie & Phil and Gloria. He continued to build his filmography with projects such as Wolfen and Easy Money. His performances as Francis Dollarhyde in Manhunter, Cain in RoboCop 2, and Kelso in Heat solidified his reputation as a memorable character actor. Throughout the years, he remained active, appearing in diverse productions from Last Action Hero to The Leftovers. His more recent credits included roles in 12 Monkeys, Wonderstruck, and Animals.
Beyond acting, Noonan also contributed as a director and writer. His work included episodes of the 1990s series Monsters and the film adaptation of his own play, The Shape of Something Squashed.
Tributes from Colleagues and Fans
Fred Dekker, who directed Noonan as Frankenstein’s Monster in The Monster Squad, shared his personal recollections. Dekker noted, “In the end, he found the make-up arduous and annoying (he was fond of tearing it off after we wrapped, and one night didn’t even bother to take it off; just drove home in his Frankenstein appliance). But all in all, he was the proverbial gentleman and scholar, and the world has lost a great talent.” He concluded his tribute with, “R.I.P. Tom. Thanks for the great work.”
Fans and former co-workers have expressed their condolences and shared favorite memories of Noonan’s career across social media platforms. Below are some of the posts:
Tom Noonan dead at the age of 74. A great character actor who could deliver both menace & emotional frailty – often at the same time. His turn as Francis Dollarhyde in Michael Mann’s Manhunter is an exceptional performance that adds extra layers to an already great film. pic.twitter.com/dEHfFZfAqc February 18, 2026
