The first official trailer for the highly anticipated film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, has been released, revealing that Barry Keoghan will portray the son of Cillian Murphy’s iconic character, Tommy Shelby.
This preview for the movie, which aims to conclude the narrative of the six-season Peaky Blinders series, indicates that Keoghan’s character has been “running the Peaky Blinders like it’s 1919 all over again,” as stated by Sophie Rundle’s Ada, during Tommy’s retreat from his gangster lifestyle.
Steven Knight, the creator, recently discussed Keoghan’s casting. He shared with Entertainment Weekly, “I never leap on board when people start saying about an actor, ‘Oh my God, he’s got this stillness.'” Knight added, “You start using all these words about an actor. But with him, it’s all true. I wanted him to be the son from the beginning, and when we knew we got him, he took it to another level. Who he is in real life is perfect for this. He’s just so good.”
Knight mentioned that while the film’s focus evolved over time, its core narrative remained consistent since its inception during the series’ original run. He emphasized to the outlet, “The father and son were the main structures,” underscoring the significance of securing a talented actor like Keoghan for the part.
Knight also highlighted the trailer’s conclusion, where Keoghan’s and Murphy’s characters share a scene. He expressed to EW, “Just to see those two in The Garrison on either side of the bar drinking whiskey — didn’t get any better for me.”
The Immortal Man serves as the concluding chapter for Thomas Shelby, a character first introduced in the initial episode of Peaky Blinders in September 2013. The film, penned by Knight and directed by Tom Harper, is scheduled to premiere in theaters on March 6, followed by its Netflix debut on March 20.
